Chandan Shrivastav, who always got up after nine o'clock this morning, took a big box of sweets from the house at five o'clock in the morning and reached there where yesterday one accident occurred.
Chandan Shrivastav remained miserable thinking the whole night and could not sleep for a single moment, the poor man's face sitting on the road repeatedly crying in front of his eyes.
Yesterday was his son's birthday and at home, he had a party with about a hundred people including his relatives, neighbors, and family members of his son's friends. In his office, Chandan Shrivastav thought that by three o'clock he would be finished from the office so that Bibi's (Wife) scold and single son's complaint would not have to be heard, but due to the boss's orders and work, he was late leaving the office.
As soon as he reached home, his car collided with a carriage of Golgappa while speeding, and all the Golgappas and other belongings of the carriage of that Golgappa were scattered on the road and destroyed. Chandan Shrivastav pushed the car forward without stopping, and looked in the rear mirror, the golgappa carriage owner was crying loudly while sitting on the road holding his head.
At a short distance from the accident area, there was a small slum of the twelve-fifteen hut of the poor. In front of a hut, they saw the same Golgappa handcart with one side wheel which was badly damaged, Chandan Shrivastav park the bike there and the door of that hut. Knocked.
A woman wearing a thin, old sari with sick and sad eyes opened the door. Shocked with surprise, upon requesting permission to come inside, she was allowed to be ashamed.
The condition inside the hut was very bad. There was a dirty cot. By seeing the cold earthen chulhas and no batches, one could understand that the food was not prepared last night. A ten-year-old bone-clothed child had something in the book. The Person was sitting on the ground next to the one he was studying.
Chandan Shrivastav took his hand in his hand and said, "I made a mistake yesterday, forgive me all your Golgappas ruined because of me".
Then the wife of the person standing there said, "Ramu's babuji (Children's father) had been ill for a week, he had to set up shop after a long time. Now we do not even have enough money to change the wheel of the cart and set up Golgappa shop tomorrow In the morning, took two thousand rupees on interest and then opened but, luck is very bad
Chandan Shrivastav gave five thousand rupees and said, "This is my atonement, you accept" and then put the packet of son's birthday sweets for that little child, but in spite of greed in the eyes of the child, After getting the approval from parents, he opened the packet and started eating sweets and the smile on everyone's face swam there and now Sanjeev Singh felt that some burden had been lifted from his heart.

नौ बजे के बाद हमेशा उठने वाले चन्दन श्रीवास्तव आज सुबह सुबह पाँच बजे घर से रात की पार्टी वाला मिठाई का एक बड़ा सा डब्बा लेकर "कुछ अर्जेंट काम है "घरवालों को बोलकर बाइक से निकल गए और वहीं पहुँचे जहाँ कल शाम उनकी कार से छोटा सा एक्सीडेंट हुआ था।
पूरी रात चन्दन श्रीवास्तव कुछ सोच सोच कर दुखी रहे और एक पल के लिए भी सो नहीं पाए थे बार बार उस गरीब आदमी का सड़क पर बैठकर रोता चेहरा उनकी आँखों के सामने घूम रहा था।
कल उनके बेटे का बर्थडे था और घर पे ही लगभग सौ लोगों के साथ पार्टी थी जिसमें उनके रिश्तेदार ,पड़ोसियों और बेटे के दोस्तों के परिवारवाले शामिल थे। अपने आफिस में चन्दन श्रीवास्तव ने सोचा था कि तीन बजे तक आफिस से काम ख़त्म कर निकल जाऊँगा ताकि बीबी की डाँट और एकलौते बेटे की शिकायत ना सुननी पड़े परंतु बॉस के आदेश और काम अधिक होने की वजह से उन्हें आफिस से निकलते निकलते देर हो गयी थी।
जल्द से जल्द घर पहुँचने के चक्कर में स्पीड में कार चलाते हुए एक गोलगप्पे वाले के ठेले से थोड़ी सी उनकी कार की टक्कर हो गयी और उस गोलगप्पे वाले के ठेले के सारे गोलगप्पे और अन्य सामान सड़क पर बिखर कर बरबाद हो गया था ।चन्दन श्रीवास्तव बिना रुके कार को आगे बढ़ा दिया रियर मिरर में देखा तो गोलगप्पे वाला सड़क पे सर पकड़कर बैठकर जोर जोर से चिल्लाते हुए रोने लगा था।
एक्सीडेंट वाली जगह से थोड़ी दूरी पर गरीबों की बारह पंद्रह झोपड़पट्टी वाली एक छोटी सी बस्ती थी।एक झोपड़ी के आगे उन्होंने वही गोलगप्पे वाला ठेला जिसके एक साइड का चक्का बुरी तरह डैमेज था लगा देखा संजीव सिंह ने बाइक वहीं खड़ी कर उस झोपड़े का दरवाजा खटखटाया।
एक बीमार सी और उदास आँखों वाली पतली दुबली पुरानी सी साड़ी पहने एक महिला ने दरवाजा खोला।अंदर आने की इज़ाज़त माँगने पर बड़े आश्चर्य से देखकर शर्मिदगी के साथ इजाज़ात दे दी।
झोपड़ी के अंदर का हाल बहुत बुरा था एक गंदी सी चारपाई थी।ठंढे मिट्टी के चूल्हे और कोई जुठे ना बर्तन देखकर कोई भी ये समझ सकता था कि कल रात खाना न बना था।एक दस साल का हड्डियों का ढांचा वाला बच्चा किताब में कुछ पढ़ाई कर रहा था वही बगल में गोलगप्पे वाला जमीन पर ही बैठा था।गोलगप्पे वाले ने हाथ जोड़कर बोला "बोलिये साहब हमसे कौनो गलती हुई क्या?"
चन्दन श्रीवास्तव उसका हाथ अपने हाथों में लेकर बोले "गलती तो मुझसे हुई थी कल ,आपके सारे गोलगप्पे मेरे कारण ही बरबाद हुए मुझे माफ़ कर दीजिए"
तभी वहाँ खड़ी गोलगप्पे वाली की पत्नी बोली " एक सप्ताह से बीमार पड़े थे रामू के बाबूजी कल बहुत दिन बाद दुकान लगाये थे अब तो हमलोगों के पास इतने पैसे भी ना है कि ठेले का चक्का बदलवा सकें और फिर से गोलगप्पे की दुकान लगा सके कल सवेरे दू हजार रुपया सूद पर ले के फिर दुकान खोलनी है किस्मत बहुत खराब है।
चन्दन श्रीवास्तव ने पाँच हजार रुपये देते हुए कहा "यही मेरा प्रायश्चित है आप स्वीकार करें" और फिर बेटे के जन्मदिन वाली मिठाई का पैकेट उस छोटे बच्चे की तरफ बढ़ाये पर बच्चे की आँखों मे लालच होते हुए भी शर्मिन्दगी से स्वीकृति के लिए माई बाबूजी की तरफ देखा ।स्वीकृति मिलते ही पैकेट खोलकर खुश होकर मिठाई खाने लगा और वहाँ खड़े सभी के चेहरे पर मुस्कुराहट तैर गयी और अब चन्दन श्रीवास्तव को लग रहा था कि उनके दिल से कोई बोझ उतर गया है।
