Life lessons that can only be learnt through travelling
Introduction.
Travel has played such an integral role in my life, it let
me fine purpose in life, it let to several lifelong friendships, it even let me
to my soul mate and it thought me many important things in life. It is how I
learnt about myself and how I fit within a greater world. Most importantly it’s
a journey of personal growth.
Travel is the best education in the
world.
You can learn all about a country in geography lesson but it
is only when you visit that you actually get the true sense of place, its
people, culture and history. Travel teaches you so many things that you can’t learn
from encyclopaedia or documentaries.
The world is not such a scary place
after all.
News media often make places look worse than they really
are, but by visiting the forbidden land and see our self, so we really know the
truth. Our experience travelling in places received as unsafe- from Zimbabwe to
North Korea else as that the story on the ground is often very different than
what happens in media.
People are generally good and we are
in essence all the same.
No matter what happen between the countries and the
government at the end of the each day people are people they are in general
good and life goes on for them in many
ways just like it does for you and me.
What goes around comes around.
I am strong believer of karma-when you do good unto others
you will receive the rewards in one or other way, when you do something bad
expect to be punished ten folds.
Our
differences are what make us unique and distinctive.
Years of travel had taught me to embrace our culture
differences and learn that these are what gives us our identities and make us
special our own way.
Don’t expect others to speak your language or follow the same habits has
yours.
More often than not, many of us travel with the
misconception that people in other countries could speak English Hindi or other
languages. In fact, overcoming language barrier is a part of the fun of travel
Being
friendly and open minded can lead to great encounters and friendship.
I never felt the need to be sociable until my first long
trip abroad. I realise that by opening myself to people I was giving myself the
chance to have great friendship and meet people who matters to me.
Nothing
breaks the ice better than a smile.
Smiles are universal “language”. A smile probably one of the important
tool that you can used to break language barriers and warm-up locals. We have
encountered several instances that way tricky but instantly sort by smiling and
adapting a friendly attitude.
At the same
time travelling does not have to be expensive.
Of course if you insist on staying at five star resort
travelling can be expensive. But it is possible to travel around many part of
the world on just $10 to $40 per day (including accommodation, food and
sightseeing). In addition to travelling with a budget, you can make money while
travelling by doing odds job like working at hotel or online blogging etc.
Less is
more.
Packing my life in to a 65 L back pack made me realized that
I don’t need much to survive and that all the possessions. I used to have home
or simply superficial and not necessary.
We can’t be
afraid to dream.
The one thing I have realized that dreams can become reality
if you work hard enough. Dream keep us motivated and alive, so don’t
ever give-up on your dreams. Even if things don’t work out, you will
realized how much you have learnt, and grew along the way.
Your Destiny lies in your hand.
Your limitations are not set by who you know, where you were
born, what genes you have, or how much money you have. Don’t live with fate. If
you are determined enough, there are plenty of opportunities in life that are
totally achievable. Go for all it NOW! You know what happens to those who wait?
Nothing.
Don’t let
fear get in your way.
Fear is often the main thing that stop people from
travelling. People worry if a place is too dangerous to travel solo, if there
is a language barrier, if they will be able to find a job when they return from
a long trip. We all experience fear, whether first time traveler or
experienced adventurous. See fear has an opportunity a guide post of
sort to identify your problems and solve them efficiently.
You don’t
have to feel guilty for leaving a life behind to travel.
Many people feel guilty after quitting their jobs to travel
and face the anxiety of finding a job when they return from the trip. Live with
no excuses and travel with no regrets.
Don’t over
plan and leave room for surprises.
While it’s wise to be prepared a trip, some travelers can
go over boarded and research one every single detail for a destination. Forget
about finding most popular restaurant in the town- sometimes the magic lies in discovering
places and things for yourself. Go with the flow and see where it takes
you-after all, isn’t that what travel is about.
Keep your expectation
in check.
Let’s face it, the all have done it, we go to an under
developed country and complain about poor hygiene, the in efficient transportation
network, and compare the countries poor tourism infrastructure with what we
have in home. Bringing our first world expectations with us is often the
biggest mistake that we make. That skews our perspective of a country and stop
us from seeing beyond the superficial
Travelling is
not something you are good at. It’s something you do like breathing- Gayale
