एक गांव में एक मूर्तिकार रहा करता था। वह बहुत खूबसूरत मूर्तियां बनाया करता था। मूर्तिकार अपने काम से अच्छा पैसा कमा लेता था। लोग उसके मूर्तियों को बहुत पसंद करते थे। कुछ दिन बाद उसे एक बेटा हुआ। जब वह बड़ा हुआ तो उसको भी कलाकार ने मूर्तियां बनाना सिखाया। अब दोनों मिल कर मूर्तियां बनाते।

बाप अपने बेटे के काम को ले कर काफी खुश था, लेकिन हर बार बेटे की मूर्तियों में कोई ना कोई कमी निकाल दिया करता था। बहुत अच्छा किया है , लेकिन अगली बार इस कमी को दूर करने की कोशिश करना। बेटा भी कोई शिकायत नहीं करता था , वह अपने पिता की सलाह पर अमल करते हुए अपनी मूर्तियों को और बेहतर करता रहा। लगातार सुधार की वजह से बेटे की मूर्तियां पिता से भी अच्छी बनने लगी, और अब ऐसा समय आ गया कि, बेटे की मूर्तियों को लोग बहुत अधिक पैसा में खरीदने लगे। जबकि पिता की मूर्तियां , उसकी पहले वाली ही कीमत पर बिकती थी।

लेकिन पिता अपने बेटे के काम में अभी भी कमी निकाल देता , लेकिन बेटे को अब अच्छा नहीं लगता था। बिना मन के उन कमियों को स्वीकार करता था। लेकिन फिर भी अपनी मूर्तियों में सुधार कर ही देता था। एक टाइम ऐसा भी आया कि जब बेटे ने सब्र खो दिया और उसने अपने पिता को जवाब दे दिया। बेटा बोला कमियां तो इस तरह निकालते है, जैसे आपको सब कुछ पता है। आप जैसे बहुत बड़े मूर्तिकार है। अगर आपको इतनी समझ होती तो, आपकी मूर्तियां कम कीमत में नहीं बिकती। मुझे अब आपकी सलाह लेने की जरूरत नहीं है।

बाप ने अपने बेटे की यह बात सुनी और कमियां निकालना बंद कर दिया। कुछ महीने तक तो लड़का खुश रहा लेकिन, फिर उसने नोटिस किया की अब कोई उसकी तारीफ नहीं करता , और उसकी मूर्तियों के दाम भी बढ़ना बंद हो गए । शुरू में तो बेटे को कुछ समझ नहीं आया, लेकिन फिर वह अपने पिता के पास गया , और समस्या के बारे में बताया। बाप ने बेटे को बहुत शांति पूर्वक बोला। मुझे पहले से पता था की एक दिन ऐसा भी आएगा।

बेटे ने इस बात को नोटिस किया , और उसने पूछा की आप ने मुझे पहले क्यों नहीं समझाया। बाप ने कहा कई साल पहले मै भी इसी हालात से टकराया था। और तुम्हारी तरह मैंने भी गलती की , मैंने भी अपने पिता को समझाने का मौका नहीं दिया। तुम्हे अपने कलाकारी पे घमंड हो गया था। मैं जानता हूं कि तुम्हारी जितनी अच्छी मूर्तियां मैं नहीं बनाता। यह भी हो सकता है कि मूर्तियों के बारे में मेरे सलाह गलत हो। ऐसा भी नहीं है कि मेरी सलाह की वजह से कभी तुम्हारी मूर्ति बेहतर बनी हो।

लेकिन जब मैं तुम्हारी मूर्तियों में कमियां दिखाता था तब तुम अपनी बनाई मूर्ति में और सुधार करने की कोशिश करते थे। यही हमेशा बेहतर होने की कोशिश तुम्हारी कामयाबी का कारण था। तुम संतुष्ट हो गए मतलब तुम खुद से मान लिए की अब सुधार की कोई गुंजाइश ही नहीं है। लेकिन लोग हमेशा तुमसे बेहतर की उम्मीद करते हैं , और यही कारण है कि तुम्हारी मूर्तियों के लिए अब तुम्हारी तारीफ नहीं होती।

बेटा पूछा अब मुझे क्या करना चाहिए, बाप ने एक लाइन में जवाब दिया, हमेशा बेहतर होने की गुंजाइश बाकी रहती है, हमेशा बेहतर से बेहतर करते रहो। किसी एक उचाई पर पहुंच कर संतुष्ट नहीं हो जाना। हमेशा आगे बेहतर करते रहना। और अच्छे से अच्छे करते रहना चाहिए।

lekin pita apane bete ke kaam mein abhee bhee kamee nikal deta ,  lekin bete ko abhee achchha nahin lagata tha. bina man ke  un kamiyon ka eksept karata tha.  lekin phir bhee apanee moortiyon mein sudhaar kar hee deta tha. ek taim aisa bhee aaya ki jab bete ke sabr kho diya aur usane apane pita ko javaab de diya. beta bola kamiyaan to is tarah nikaalate hai jaise aapako sab kuchh pata hai. aap jaise bahut bade moortikaar hai. agar aapako itanee samajh hotee to aapakee moortiyaan kam keemat mein nahin bikatee. mujhe aapakee salaah lene kee jaroorat nahin hai.

baap ne apane bete kee yah baat sunee aur kamiyaan nikaalana band kar diya.  kuchh maheene to ladaka khush raha lekin phir usane notis kiya kee usakee taareeph ab koee nahin karata ,  aur usakee moortiyon ke daam bhee badhana band ho gaya.  shuroo mein to bete ko kuchh samajh nahin aaya lekin phir vah apane baap ke paas gaya aur samasya ke baare mein bataaya. baap ne bete ko bahut shaanti poorvak bola. mujhe pahale se pata tha ek din aisa bhee aaega.

bete ne bhee is baat ko notis kiya aur usane poochha aap ne mujhe pahale kyon nahin samajhaaya. baap ne kaha kaee saal pahale mai  bhee isee haalaat se takaraaya tha. aur tumane bhee mujhe samajhane ka mauka nahin diya. tumhe apane kalaakaaree pe ghamand ho gaya. main jaanata hoon ki tumhaaree jitanee achchhee moortiyaan main nahin banaata. yah bhee ho sakata hai ki moortiyon ke baare mein mere salaah galat ho. aisa bhee nahin hai ki meree salaah kee vajah se kabhee tumhaaree moorti behatar banee ho.

lekin jab main tumhaaree moortiyon mein kamiyaan dikhaata tha tab tum apanee banaee moorti mein  aur sudhaar karane kee koshish karate the. yahee hamesha behatar hone kee koshish tumhaaree kaamayaabee ka kaaran tha. tum santusht ho gae matalab maan lie kee ab sudhaar  kee koee  kee gunjaish hee nahin hai. log hamesha tumase behatar kee ummeed karate hain , aur yahee kaaran hai ki tumhaaree moortiyon ke lie ab  tumhaaree taareeph nahin hotee.
